lONGINES: A TRADITION OF SWISS WATCHMAKING

Longines got its start in 1832 when it was founded by Auguste Agassiz in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, which it continues to call home. With help from a few key figures, the brand pioneered several advancements that would set it apart from its competitors over the next 100 years – including the production of crown-wound pocket watches.

The brand, whose name means long meadows, claimed the world’s first watch trademark. It was also the first Swiss company to assemble watches under one roof. Later, the brand collaborated with P.V.H. Weems to produce the first wrist watch, and then Charles Lindbergh to introduce the Hour Angle aviation watch – continually building a legacy of quality and precision.

As time passed, Longines became known for their stopwatches, and so found itself immersed in equestrian sports. Later, it became the official timekeeper for other sporting events including archery, the Commonwealth Games, gymnastics championships, the Alpine Ski World Cup, the French Open, and more.

Longines became part of the Swiss Swatch Group in 1983. Notable brand ambassadors include Audrey Hepburn, Andre Agassi, Kate Winslet, Simon Baker, Jennifer Lawrence, Harry Connick Jr., and Mikaela Shiffrin.
