Audemars Piguet Royal Oak AUTOMATIC 2026 overview
41mm
Steel
Exhibition Caseback
Grande Tapisserie, Khaki-Green Dial
Original Box & Papers
Unworn!
$64,000
Key Details:
The Royal Oak's design is one of the most famous origin stories in watchmaking. In 1971, AP's then-CEO Georges Golay reportedly called designer Gérald Genta the night before the Basel watch fair, asking for a completely new concept — a luxury sports watch in steel, something that didn't exist in serious watchmaking at the time. The legend goes that Genta sketched the design overnight.
Genta drew inspiration from the porthole of an old diving helmet — hence the octagonal bezel with visible screws. He wasn't a one-hit wonder either: he went on to design the Patek Philippe Nautilus, IWC Ingenieur, and Bulgari Bulgari, essentially inventing the entire "luxury sports watch" category almost single-handedly.
Key features of the Royal Oak include:
- The octagonal bezel with eight exposed hexagonal screws — functional-looking hardware on a dress-adjacent watch was radical in 1972 and remains the brand's visual signature.
- The integrated bracelet — case and bracelet flow as one continuous design rather than a case with a strap attached, which is part of why the watch sits so flat and comfortable on the wrist.
- The "Tapisserie" dial pattern — a waffle-like guilloché texture that catches light differently depending on the angle.
- In-house movement manufacturing — AP is one of the few brands that designs and finishes essentially all of its own calibers, including famously thin automatics and complications like perpetual calendars and tourbillons.
- Hand-finishing at a level usually reserved for far more traditional dress watches — the contrast is deliberate: casual steel sports watch on the outside, haute horlogerie finishing on the inside.
Why It Stands Out:
- The original Royal Oak was 39mm, but this one is current corre Audemars Piguet at 41mm.
- The black-polished Audemars Piguet logo disappears at certain angles, the aligned screws on the bezel and case back, and the way light plays across the brushed and polished surfaces — it rewards close inspection in a way most watches don't.
- Steel on steel luxury sports watches are always great finds, and this 2026 unworn timepiece would be a fantastic addition to a highly discerning watch collector.
CARL F BUCHERER MANERO FLYBACK overview
43mm
18K Rose Gold Case
Louisiana Alligator Leather Strap With Rose Gold Buckle
Automatic Chronograph
Original Box & Papers
$12,500
Key Details:
Carl F. Bucherer is a Lucerne-based independent, family-controlled manufacture, known for building its own in-house calibers (like the CFB 1970 here) rather than relying entirely on outsourced movements — something not every brand at this price point can claim. The Manero line specifically is their classical/dress-chronograph collection, built around clean, symmetrical dial layouts (this one has the two-subdial arrangement) rather than the more overtly technical, sport-oriented Patravi lines.
What "flyback" actually means:
It's a specific chronograph mechanism, not just a marketing name. On a conventional chronograph, timing a new interval right after another requires three separate button presses — stop, reset, restart. A flyback lets you do it in one push: the hands instantly snap back to zero and the chronograph starts running again immediately — no need to stop it first. It was originally developed for pilots and navigators who needed to time successive legs of a flight without losing a beat, which is where the name comes from. It's a genuinely harder complication to engineer than a standard chronograph, since the reset and restart have to happen essentially instantaneously without damaging the movement.
Why It Stands Out:
- It’s slim, dressy and distinguished, ideal for a collector wanting a rose gold dress chronograph.
- This pre-owned luxury watch in Pittsburgh sits at a great price - precious metals, movement, and in-house flyback movement. It is available at Henne Jewelers.
Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 2026 overview
42mm
Tachymeter Scale Bezel
Exhibition Caseback
Manual-Wind
Original Box & Papers
$10,000
Key Details:
- It's one of the most historically significant watches in the world! The design is drawn directly from the 4th-generation Speedmaster that was actually worn on the moon.
- It is Master Chronometer certified, meaning it's independently tested by METAS (Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology) on top of standard COSC chronometer certification, for accuracy, magnetic resistance, and power reserve under real-world conditions
Why It Stands Out:
- The tie to space history makes it an iconic choice for any watch collector.
- Purists will love the fact that it's a manual chronograph.
- The sapphire crystal offers scratch resistance and more durability, versus the original hesalite.
- This pre-owned luxury Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch watch is available in Pittsburgh at Henne Jewelers.
